Some time ago, there lived a King. This king should have been contented with his life, given all the riches and luxuries he had. However, this was not the case! The King always found himself wondering why he just never seemed
content with his life.
Sure, he had the attention of everyone wherever he went, attended fancy dinners and parties, but somehow, he still felt something was lacking and he couldn't put his finger on it.
One day, the King had woken up earlier than usual to stroll around his palace. He entered his huge living room and came to a stop when he heard someone happily singing away... following this singing... he saw that one of the servants was singing and had a very contented look on his face. This fascinated the King and he summoned this man to his chambers.
The man entered the King's chambers as ordered. The King asked why he was so happy?
To this the man replied: "Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but I make enough of a living to keep my wife and children happy. We don't need too much, a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummy. My wife and children are my inspiration, they are content with whatever little I bring home. I am happy because my family is happy."
Hearing this, the King dismissed the servant and summoned his Personal Assistant to his chambers.
The King related his personal anguish about his feelings and then related the story of the servant to his Personal Assistant, hoping that somehow, he will be able to come up with some reasoning that here was a King who could have anything he wished for at a snap of his fingers and yet was not contented, whereas, his servant, having so little was extremely contented.
The Personal Assistant listened attentively and came to a conclusion. He said, "Your Majesty, I believe that the servant has not been made part of The 99 Club." "The 99 Club? And what exactly is that?" the King inquired.
To which the Assistant replied, "Your Majesty, to truly know what The 99 Club is, you will have to do the following... place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep, you will then understand what The
99 Club is."
That very same evening, the King arranged for 99 Gold coins to be placed in a bag at the servant's doorstep. Although he was slightly hesitant and he thought he should have put 100 Gold coins into the bag, but since his assistant had advised him to put 99 that is what he did.
The servant was just stepping out of his house when he saw a bag at his doorstep. Wondering about its contents, he took it into his house and opened the bag. When he opened the bag, he let out a great big shout of joy...Gold
Coins... so many of them. He could hardly believe it. He called his wife to show her the coins.
He then took the bag to a table and emptied it out and began to count the coins. Doing so, he realized that there were 99 coins and he thought it was an odd number so he counted again, and again and again only to come to the
same conclusion... 99 Gold Coins.
He began to wonder, what could have happened to that last 1 coin? For no one would leave 99 coins. He began to search his entire house, looked around his backyard for hours, not wanting to lose out on that one coin. Finally,
exhausted, he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to make up for that 1 Gold coin to make his entire collection an even 100 Gold Coins.
He got up the next morning, in an extremely horrible mood, shouting at the children and his wife for his delay, not realizing that he had spent most of the night conjuring ways of working hard so that he had enough money to buy
himself that gold coin. He went to work as usual - but not in his usual best mood, singing happily - as he grumpily did his daily errands.
Seeing the man's attitude change so drastically, the King was puzzled. He promptly summoned his assistant to his chambers. The King related his thoughts about the servant and once again, his assistant listened. The King could not believe that the servant who until yesterday had been singing away and was happy and content with his life had taken a sudden change of attitude, even though he should have been happier after receiving the gold coins.
To this the assistant replied "Ah! But your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club." He explained: "The 99 Club is just a name given to those people who have everything but yet are never contented,
therefore they are always working hard and striving for that extra 1 to round it out to 100! We have so much to be thankful for and we can live with very little in our lives, but the minute we are given something bigger and better, we want even more!
Lesson to learn from this Story:
We are not the same happy contented person we used to be, we want more and more and by wanting more and more we don't realize the price we pay for it.
We lose our sleep, our happiness; we hurt the people around us just as a price to pay for our growing needs and desires.
That is what joining The 99 Club is all about."
Hearing this the King decided that from that day onwards, he was going to start appreciating all the little things in life.
Striving for more is always good, but let's not strive so hard and for so much that we loses all those near and dear to our hearts, we shouldn't compromise our happiness for moments of luxuries!

Study clears mobiles of brain cancer risk
Studies have shown no evidence that mobile use is harmful to the brain.
Using a mobile phone does not increase your risk of brain cancer, according to a new Japanese study that is the first to consider the effects of radiation on different parts of the brain.
The finding adds to the growing body of evidence that mobile phones are safe.
Scientists at Tokyo Women's Medical University compared phone use in 322 brain cancer patients with 683 healthy people and found that regularly using a mobile did not significantly affect the likelihood of getting brain cancer.
They also studied the radiation emitted from different types of phones to assess the affect on different areas of the brain.
"Using our newly developed and more accurate techniques, we found no association between mobile phone use and cancer, providing more evidence to suggest they don't cause brain cancer," Naohito Yamaguchi, who led the research, said.
His team's findings were published in the British Journal of Cancer. Scientists around the world have been monitoring the effects of radio-frequency fields on human health for around 60 years.
Public concern over the safety of mobile phones has grown as more and more adults and children rely on them for everyday communication, although the evidence to date has given the technology a clean bill of health.
Despite an explosion in mobile phone use around the world since the 1980s, the number of cases of brain cancer has hardly changed.
A few studies have shown an association between mobile phones and cancer but the majority have found no link. The largest study to date, involving 420,000 people, showed no association with any type of cancer, even after 10 years of use.
"So far, studies have shown no evidence that mobile use is harmful, but we can't be completely sure about their long-term effects. Research is still ongoing," said Cancer Research UK's director of cancer information, Lesley
Walker.

Internet users could be banned over illegal downloads
People who illegally download films and music will be cut off from the internet under new legislative proposals to be unveiled next week.
Internet service providers (ISPs) will be legally required to take action against users who access pirated material, The Times has learnt.
Users suspected of wrongly downloading films or music will receive a warning e-mail for the first offence, a suspension for the second infringement and the termination of their internet contract if caught a third time, under the most likely option to emerge from discussions about the new law.
Broadband companies who fail to enforce the "three-strikes" regime would be prosecuted and suspected customers' details could be made available to the courts. The Government has yet to decide if information on offenders should
be shared between ISPs. Six million broadband users are estimated to download files illegally every year in this country in a practice that music and film companies claim is costing them billions of pounds in lost revenue annually.
Britain's four biggest internet providers – BT, Tiscali, Orange and Virgin Media – have been in talks with Hollywood's biggest studio and distribution companies for six months over a voluntary scheme.
Parallel negotiations between Britain's music industry and individual internet providers have been dragging on for two years.
Major sticking points include who will arbitrate disputed allegations, for example when customers claim to have been the victim of "wi-fi piggybacking", in which users link up to a paid-for wireless network that is not their own. Another outstanding disagreement is how many enforcements the internet companies will be expected to initiate and how quickly warning e-mails would be sent.
International action in the US and France, which is implementing its own "three-strikes" regime, has increased the pressure on British internet companies and stiffened the Government's resolve.
Ministers will make an explicit commitment to legislate with the launch next week of a Green Paper on the creative industries. A draft copy, obtained by The Times, states: "We will move to legislate to require internet service providers to take action on illegal file-sharing." A consultation paper setting out the options is promised within months.
A spokesman for the Internet Service Providers Association said it remained hopeful that agreement over a voluntary agreement could be reached: "Every right-thinking body knows that self-regulation is much the better option in these areas."
Roz Groome, vice-president of antipiracy for NBC Universal, welcomed the prospect of new laws. "We welcome the signal from Government that it values the health of the creative industries and takes seriously the damage caused
by widespread online copyright infringement. We call upon ISPs to take action now. They must play their part in the fight against online piracy and work with rights owners to ensure that ISPs' customers do not use their services for illegal activity. Piracy stifles innovation and threatens the long term health of our industry."
Ed Vaizey, the Shadow Arts Minister, said: "David Cameron called on the internet providers to address this issue last summer. The credibility of the Government's latest threat is undermined by the fact that ministers have spent so many years dithering on whether to legislate."
The commitment forms part of a Green Paper on the creative industries entitled The World's Creative Hub to be launched by Andy Burnham, the Culture Secretary, and Gordon Brown next week. Other high-profile elements include a pledge that children will be entitled to five hours of culture a week overseen by a new youth culture trust. The
pledge will give children the right to learn a musical instrument, visit art galleries and museums and even make films.
Other pledges include setting up a new international conference modelled on Davos, entitled the World Creative Economy Forum, and supporting a new £200 million film centre at the South Bank in London. A spokeswoman for the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport said: "Early drafts of our creative economy programme document were circulated to stakeholders for comment. The content and proposals for the strategy have been significantly developed
since then and a comprehensive plan to bolster the UK's creative industries will be published shortly. We will not comment on the content of the leaked document."

Face Reading
Shapes of faces:
Round shaped faces are also called Moon faces. They represent laziness, lack of energy, imaginative and jovial persons. Square shaped faces are called Earth faces. They represent a tough and aggressive person, offensive and sociable. Rectangular faces represent a honest, diplomatic and leadership qualities. We can also have triangular faces. An upright triangle which starts with narrow area at the forehead and comes down widening, represents fire face. This is a symbol for anger, low talent but boastful, and rough person. An inverted triangle which becomes narrowed at the chin, is also called Air face. This signifies a cheerful, bright temperament, hyperactive and sensitive person.
Side profile of face:
A straight face represents a person whose nature is balanced. A concave face represents a person who sees dark side of life. A convex face makes a person an optimist with a happy disposition. If a straight horizontal line is drawn from the corner of the eye towards the ear, it should just touch the ear's upper portion. If the ear is located above the straight line, it denotes the person is of refined nature. Ear set low below the line and close to the head represents criminal tendencies. If the ear is erected out from the head, with much gap between the head and ear, the person depends on inner self to gain success. Forehead:
A high and even forehead with a good shining gives a person intelligence and a rich life to enjoy. Any black shades or black creases on forehead represents obstacles in his career. Three clear horizontal lines on the forehead give longevity.
Eyebrows:
If the eyebrows are set apart, it represents broad mindedness. Eyebrows close to each other represent critical minded person who expects exactness in every work. If the eyebrows are high set, then it denotes an irresponsible attitude and superior tastes. If the eyebrows are low set and nearer to the eyelids, then they represent a prudent and calculative nature and an insecure mind. If the eyebrows are like a straight line, the person will become practical and unimaginative.
Eyes:
The colored circular portion of the eye is called 'iris'. If these irisis float too high, we will have an unstable and disturbed person. He is not trust worthy. Sometimes it denotes premature death. If the irisis sink too low in the eye, a cruel and perverse nature is indicated. If the iris is large, thus occupying much of the space in the eye , the person cannot hide affections and emotions. If the iris is small, and hence the white portion of the eye is much seen, then the person is secretive. If the gap between the two eyes is large, the person is expansive and communicative. If the eyes are closely set, then the person will be criticising others, and will not demonstrate his feelings.
Color of Eyes:
A dark eye denotes a forceful nature than a light colored one. Light blue colored eyes represent flirtation. Deep blue is a sign of gentle love. Brown eyed people are devoted in love and friendship. Hazel eyes represent a highly impressionable and affectionate type. Grey represents good intellect and imagination. Green eyes denote an inventive and adaptable nature. Black eyes provide passion and tenderness. Nose:
If the nose is long, the person will be proud of his accomplishments. If short nose is found, we will have a free person escaping from responsibility. Broad nose gives stability of mind. Nose tilted up with nostrils visible represents a spendthrift and emotional person.
Lips:
The size of the upper lip represents the ability to love and the size of lower lip represents need for love. If the lip corners are turned up, cheerful and friendly disposition is seen. If the lip corners are turned down, irresolute person with depression can be seen. Full and broad lips show sensuous tendency. Thin lips show brevity and concise behaviour of the person. He will also be a learned person. Mouth:
A large mouth is a sign of outgoing and extroverted person. A small mouth represents introverted, careful and cautious people.
Chin:
A narrow, pointed or weak chin represents less energy and drive. They face problems in old age. A broad, round chin is symbolic of generosity and good humour. A broad and square shaped chin makes the person work hard. It is a mark of steadiness.
Jaw:
A strong and deep jaw line just below the ear lobe represents the person has good will power and energy. Weak jaw indicates flexibility. When the soul creates its body in the mother's womb, and slowly limb by limb is formed, the interactions of previous birth's instincts with the soul lead to alterations in the outer body. So by observing the outer body, we can estimate the inner self of the person. This is the root idea of Physiognomy.

Inspirational Words of Wisdom about Life
The Road To Success Is Not Straight:
There is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, caution lights called family, and you will have flats called jobs.
But, if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, and a driver called God, you will make it to a place called success!
Live For Something:
Do good, and leave behind you a monument of virtue that the storms of time can never destroy.
Write your name in kindness, love, and mercy on the hearts of thousands you come in contact with year by year, and you will never be forgotten. Your name and your good deeds will shine as the stars of heaven.
Pearls of Wisdom:
Don't love the Heart that hurts you and don't hurt the Heart that loves you.
Don't cry over anyone who won't cry over you.
Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget.
Most people walk in and out of your life, but only friend's leave footprints in your heart.
True friendship "never" ends. Friends are forever.
People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges.
If we are incapable of finding peace in ourselves, it is pointless to search elsewhere.
The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof.
A change of heart changes everything.
Our greatest glory is not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall.
You only live once - but if you work it right, once is enough.
One generation plants trees, and the next enjoys the shade.
It is difficult to live in the present, ridiculous to live in the future, and impossible to live in the past. Nothing is as far away as one minute ago.
You are what you think!
Your inner thoughts can cause you to be rich or poor, loved or unloved, happy or unhappy, attractive or unattractive, powerful or weak.
What you impress upon your mind, you'll inevitably become. It's a psychological law that whatever you desire to accomplish you must first impress upon your subconscious mind.
Relentless, repetitive self talk will change your self image. You'll affect your subconscious mind with verbal repetition. Constant repetition carries conviction.
When you change your values you'll change your behavior. Start thinking of yourself as becoming the person you want to be. Self suggestion will make you the master of yourself.
If you believe you can, you can.
You can become whatever you want to be.
Slow Down:
Life is not a race. It is a journey.
Getting someplace first, before anyone else, has very little real and lasting meaning. Seek instead to encourage others to come along, and you'll find the journey much more fulfilling.
When you hurry through each moment, you miss out on the richness that could be yours. Take the time to live, to experience where you are, rather than being so obsessed with getting to the next checkpoint.
When you stop demanding to have it all now, you'll discover that you have plenty already. Learn to experience joy where you are, and you'll experience it in abundance.
Yes, it can be wonderfully exhilarating when life is moving quickly. But do not move so quickly that speed becomes your only experience, for there is so much more to enjoy.
The terrain of life is filled with wonderful and astounding detail. Slow down and take in its richness.
One Step Away:
If you were just one step away from reaching your goal, would you take that step? How do you know, right now, that you're not?
What a shame it would be to stop making the effort, when just a little bit more would make it all worthwhile. What a shame it would be to have taken all those steps, only to miss the very last one.
The next step you take may very well be the one that makes all the others count. You owe it to yourself, and the efforts you've made, to keep going.
No, the next step may not get you there. Yet what about the one after that? If you keep moving ahead, a little at a time, you will indeed arrive. When you take that final, triumphant step, you'll be so very thankful you persevered.
At some point success is just one step away. Keep going and you'll be there.
Must Do:
In each task that must be done, there is opportunity. See the task not as a burden, but as an encouragement to be fully alive and effective.
The real burden would be the inability to do anything. No task is a burden, but is instead the chance to express your own aliveness.
Does the work seem dreary, unimaginative, tedious or boring? That's mainly because your attitude makes it so.
See what happens when you start by being thankful for the opportunity to do it. Your genuine gratitude will help you to see the positive value.
When the things you must do become things you want to do, it can transform your life. Each moment takes on more meaning; each effort brings greater and greater reward.
Rather than fighting and forcing yourself to do what must be done, let go of your resistance and allow yourself to accomplish. Let what you must, become what you want, and watch yourself begin to soar.

Hampi Cries For Conservation
A distance of just 32-km, from Toranagallu to Hampi, takes an hour and a half. This is testimony enough to the infrastructure in this part of the country.
Scholars from India and abroad voiced their concerns at a seminar held there recently, calling for better infrastructure at the UNESCO Heritage Site, apart from conserving the monuments and the artifact, integrating it with the people living in the area.
With over 2,000-listed monuments and many more unlisted ones, scattered over 26 sq km, Hampi and its environs attract a large number of tourists, pilgrims and enthusiasts of archaeology, either to see and study the monuments and stones or to pray at the 15th century Virupaksha Temple.
This 'largest open-air museum in the world', however, offers them few facilities. With not even the basic facilities like toilets, drinking water and accommodation, the large number of visitors to this city of yore of grandeur and wealth of the Vijayanagar kings who ruled during 1336 and 1565, cries for attention today. The roads are in such state, it can takes six to eight hours to traverse the 133 km. The only consolation is water tanks are used to water these mud and potholed roads to save the visitors a dust-bath.
There are other issues too afflicting the heritage site. There is unfounded fear among the locals of being evicted from Hampi to save its monuments as it is a Heritage Site. They apprehend that this city, would be turned into a dead city of deserted monuments. The officials dub it a bogey of those who have encroached the monuments and the stone pavilions.
These and other issues figured at an international seminar on 'Taking Vijayanagar's Past Into the Future', sponsored by the Hampi Foundation of the Vidyanagar (Toranagallu)-based JSW Steel Ltd. The foundation has taken up the task of formulating a master plan for the management of the Hampi region.
Cornell University (US) Professor Michael Tomlan said at the very outset, "There is growing concern across the world about this heritage site. With its World Heritage designation, it has translated into an important heritage site of the world. However, the problem is of the access to the centre. You have to have infrastructure to tackle the wide range of issues like sanitation, water and such others," Tomlan said.
He was not for relocating people living here, but wanted the economic advantages of it to be seen.
Director of the Vijayanagara Research Project John M Fritz of US spoke on the human association with the place. "Whether there has to be a continued destruction of the archaeological record or conservation, it is ultimately India's choice," he said.
London-based architect and historian George Michell explained through an illustrated presentation how the damages to the heritage sites have continued over the years. "The early photographs of Vijayanagar compared with the subsequent years reveal there are many lessons to be learnt," he said.
There was a general opinion that the controversial bridge should be built five km from the present place across the Tungabhadra.

The Best Advice I Ever Got
Now, The best advice I ever got ....
You can get so much from it.
I was reading a recent edition of Forbes Magazine and the theme was "the best advice I ever got" and I want to share one story with you.
The magazine was interviewing billionaire Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways, and he said something very interesting.
Talking about his mentor, Freddie Laker, Branson said:
"At the time, I was running a little record company; I was about 17 years old. The first time I met him was some years later. I was thinking about setting up my own airline.
He gave me this advice: 'You'll never have the advertising power to outsell British Airways. You are going to have to get out there and use yourself. Make a fool of yourself. Otherwise you won't survive'."
Many people ask me, they say, "Mike, what are some tips on how to be successful?"
I want to share one with you that was very tough for me; I still struggle with it today at times, but I've had my share of victories as well.
If you re-read the quote above from Richard Branson, you'll see that his mentor gave him the advice of "Make a fool out of yourself." I want to say it a different way to you.
I'll say it this way:
You're not going to unleash your greatness and reach your financial goals if you don't STRETCH YOURSELF.
Fact.
To do something great you must first be uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable always comes before comfortable.
Michael Dell, Tiger Woods, Warren Buffet, Julia Roberts all stretched themselves a ton, they took risks, and they had the COURAGE to persevere.
Here's the good news.
You don't need to stretch yourself 100%, 50% or even 25%.
This is what you need to do today.
Stretch yourself 1%. Yes, that's it!
Ask yourself:
What is one action that I know I need to do today, but that is uncomfortable and tough for me to do?
DO IT!
Is it prospecting, public speaking, asking for a raise? Whatever it is, stretch yourself and GO FOR IT.
I believe in you and it's time you 'knock the ball out of the park' and live your dreams.
Richard Branson was scared also, he had a ton of fears and probably still does to this day.
He just made the DECISION to go for it and now he's one of the wealthiest people in the world.
Give yourself the gift of stretching yourself 1% today.
You'll love yourself for it.

Sringeri - The Holy realm
Sringeri is a picturesque town in the heart of the Malnad with rich vegetation and pleasant climate. This temple town attracts pilgrims from all over India and abroad as well. It is located at the foot of the Sahyadris (Western ghats). The green forests and the sacred river Tunga have made this town a lovely abode of nature. Sringeri is situated on the left bank of the holy river Tunga. The water of this river is sweet and pure and by all counts. Tunga paana, Ganga Snaana ( taste the Tunga and bathe in the Ganges).
The region of Sringeri was once ruled by the Hoysala emperors. the Hoysala rule came to an end when Mallik Kafur entered South India with his regiments in 1311 A.D. The invaders in their zeal to spread their religion, made assaults on the Hindus and broke their idols of worship and their temples. It is said that the Sringeri Mutt and Sharada temple suffered mutilation at the time of the invasion. Sringeri till then was only a spiritual centre. It became a beehive of political activities which culminated in the establishment of the great Vijayanagar empire.
There are many shrines and temples in and around Sringeri. Adi Guru Sankaracharya constructed four temples for four deities as the protector of the Sree Sharada Peetha at Sringeri. They are Kalabhairava temple to the east, Durga Temple to the south, Anjaneya temple to the west and Kali temple to the north.
Sankaracharya established the Advaita Mutt and the temple of Sree Sharada. The Sharada temple has been rejuvenated from time to time.
Sree Sharada Devi Sree Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamiji built a grand gopuram to this great temple. Every year during Navarathri (dussera) a grand festival is celebrated. The goddess is taken out in procession through the streets of the town. Thousands flock to the temple to witness this ten-day festival.
Sree Malahanikareshwara temple, situated on the top of the Mallappa hill, in the heart of the town, is very old. This temple is built in the dravidian style. On the left is the Bhavanidevi temple, which is believed to be built by Sreemad Chidanand Swamiji.
Sree Vidyashankar temple is the cynosure of Sringeri. It fascinates all types of visitors and devotees. It possesses architectural beauty and grandeur. The samadhi of Sree Vidyatheertha Swamiji is also here. Viewed from a distance it looks as though it is a attractive chariot. On the walls are carved innumerable statues. On the pinnacle of its lofty tower is the gold cupola. Inside this temple are the twelve sculptured pillars with the signs of zodiac from Aries to Pisces. As the sun move from one zone to another, its rays fall on the respective pillars. These pillars are placed strictly in accordance of the principles of astronomy. Lord Shanideva housed in this temple is offered with special pujas.
Shree Sankaracharya temple, the Janardhana temple and the Harihareshwara temple are also beautiful. Sringeri overflows with life and brisk activities. Everyday one can find a celebration of some kind. Celebrations on a grand scale takes place on days like, Sankara Jayanthi, Ganesha Chathurti, Shiva Rathri etc. The Rathotsavas of Sharadadevi, Vidyashankar and Malahanikareshwara present a grand spectacle of religious gatherings. The Jagadguru of the Peetha offers worship to Lord Chandramouleshwara everyday. The silver Rathotsava of Sri Sharadadevi is celebrated on all Fridays.
Sree Vidya Theertha was the Swamiji of Sringeri at the time of the founding of the Vijayanagar Empire. Bharathi Theertha and Vidyaranya were the ardent disciples of Sree Vidya Theertha. Hukka and Bukka, who founded the Vijayanagar kingdom, were the devotees of the Sringeri Mutt. Thus, Sringeri participated in the glorious adventure of founding an Empire whose prime objective was to protect and foster the Hindu culture and religion from the onslaughts of the invaders.
Sringeri prospered as a great center of learning. Temples and Mutts were built and students flocked to this place to learn the vedic philosophy.
After the fall of the Vijayanara Empire, the Nayakas of Ikkeri continued to protect the interests of Sringeri. Venkatappa Nayaka rendered his services in helping the mutt to carry on its noble task of perpetuation of spiritual creed. Sringeri flourished as a principal center of education and as the propagator of Hindu religion and philosophy.
The reign of Veerbhadra Nayak witnessed political tumult. The rulers of Ikkeri came in conflict with the rulers of Kalasa. The prince of Kalasa seized Sringeri.
Sree Sachchidananda Bharathi, the then Jagadguru of the Peetha gave shelter to the people affected by the seize and protected the Mutt. The turmoil ended soon when the Ikkeri army rushed to Sringeri and fought a decisive battle and defeated Bhairava.
Hyder Ali annexed Ikkeri to the kingdom of Mysore. Tipu Sultan extended financial and material aids to Sringeri for the reconstruction of the temples. Tipu revered the Jagadguru and sought his blessings. Eventually Sringeri came under the rule of the Wodeyars.
The Wodeyars of Mysore were the staunch devotees of the Sringeri Mutt. Thus, the Mutt of Sringeri maintained its integrity and carried on its objective of the propagation of faith. It strove hard to protect its interests whenever there was a political upheaval and turmoil.
Sringeri has all along been a great center of education, a platform of intellectual activities and strong moral force. People all over India revere it as a Peetha of moral and intellectual and philosophical excellence. It has ushered in a new era by engaging itself in the nation building activities.

Office ACs Can Make Your Lungs Suffer
Working in a cool, comfortable office sure feels good, but there are facts about centralised air-conditioned offices that could make you catch your breath — literally. Contrary to claims of filtering out impure air, the AC ducts could actually be health hazards themselves, causing a number of air-borne diseases.
"Low temperatures in air ducts are conductive to the growth of many fungi and algae, which cause infections", says Dr V. Nageshwar, consultant interventional pulmonologist at Wockhardt Hospital, Hyderabad. Breathing the air circulated through these ducts could make you sicker than you believed possible, because AC maintenance personnel have been known to have cleared out buckets of dust, packs of mould, dead rats and rotting from the ducts!
The problem is so widespread that the World Health Organisation even coined a term for it — Sick building Syndrome, or SBS, meaning buildings where faulty heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, among other factors, could cause a medley of ailments.
And guess what seals your fate — the fact that offices seal their windows to maintain the perfect AC conditions. "Most companies do not realise that they are affecting the health of their employees in the long run.
If you do not allow fresh air in, you are breathing increased levels of CO2 and fungal spores from ducts, which can cause gradual suffocation and irreversible lung infections," says Dr Nageshwar. He adds, "Fungal spores which grow in the unclean AC ducts reach the tiny air spaces in the lung called alveoli. This causes inflammation at the alveolar level resulting in irreversible damage. Alveoli are fundamental functional units of the lung, where the oxygen enters the blood and CO2 is exchanged. Once a person suffers from lung disease, he appears to crave for sufficient oxygen for breathing as this exchange mechanism is hampered."
What about the filters that are supposed to purify the air? "None of the existing brands can filter anything below 20 microns", says Voltas official at Chennai, Hari P. "Filtering smaller particles would require high-capacity fans, which in turn increases power consumption. Conditions prevalent in air handling units and air ducts are congenial for growth of fungi, which also provide bio-adhesive force to dust and particulate contaminants, which further results in a polluted indoor environment. Ozone systems, which can be installed with centralized ACs, can control fungi, bacteria and odour to a greater degree", Hari adds, and suggests cleaning the ducts about once a month in offices, and more often in places like hospitals.
ENT disorders and allergy specialist Dr P.P Devan, who has pioneered a treatment for such allergies using a High Frequency Radio Wave at his clinic in Mangalore, remarks, "Any dust particle can cause an allergy, but particles in the range of 3-10 microns size do not get filtered by the AC filters and can cause diseases like allergic fungal sinusitis or perhaps fungal pneumonia, which can also be life threatening in some cases." Dr Devan adds that drugs can only provide symptomatic relief to allergies — they cannot cure.
Symptoms Of Dust Allergy
Persons under continuous exposure may land up with respiratory distresses, cardiac complications, cancer or any other similar fatal conditions.
Symptoms of shortness of breath, cough, chills and nausea typically occur four to eight hours after the exposure.
What Offices Can Do
If symptoms appear, individuals must meet a lung specialist (pulmonologist) and undergo pulmonary investigations to rule out any disease condition.
